Dr. Ioane Ofisa, a.k.a Dr. John, won dentist of the year!!! Thank you to all of his patients that voted for him, and thank you to Dr. Ofisa for all of his compassionate and skilled dental work throughout all of these years. You’re one-of-a-kind and we love all that you bring to our team and to our patients. We know you don’t like it when praise is sent your way, but we have to for this one!
If you don’t know who Dr. Ofisa is, he was born and raised in Honolulu, HI, where his aloha spirit was truly nurtured. Which is why it’s so common to see him going above-and-beyond for the staff and patients at McKenzie Dental Center. The name Ioane, also means “John” in Samoan, which is why everyone calls him “Dr. John”. After completing high-school, Dr. Ofisa, moved to Washington for his undergraduate degree, and received his doctorate in dentistry at Loma Linda University.
During his 20 years of practicing dentistry Dr. Ofisa has served countless patients from all walks of life, and has helped train up-and-coming dental professionals to do the same. He has been a continuous contributor for Caring Hands Worldwide, a non-profit that is dedicated to providing free dental care locally and internationally. One of the main reasons he chose dentistry is that he grew up without dental insurance or regular dental care. He wanted to help people regardless of insurance, which inspired many years in public health dentistry.
From the moment Dr. Ofisa interviewed, we knew he was noteworthy. The best way to describe that conversation was “unique.” That uniqueness is what endears him to our entire team, as every day he demonstrates it in unparalleled silliness, joy, compassion, generosity, and a willingness to go above and beyond. What stands out about Dr. Ofisa, which is also what excites him about the field of dentistry, is how much he enjoys connecting with people.
While we could share countless humorous and meaningful stories about Dr. Ofisa, we know that everyone who has worked with him or met him, holds their own special memories. So, for all of the memories that you’ve blessed us all with, Dr. Ofisa: Thank you!
